Prince William of Gloucester

Prince Henry's eldest son, Prince William of Gloucester, died in 1972, aged 30, when the Piper Cherokee aeroplane that he was piloting crashed. He was taking part in a race at an air show, at Halfpenny Green Airport near Wolverhampton. The accident happened shortly after take–off, and was witnessed by 30,000 spectators.
